Sherman tank

The Sherman Tank was a light weight in the tank battles of world war two. When in a one on one battle the Sherman was no match for just about any tank that it would face in world war two. The Sherman had about 2 inches of armor on it, that seems like a lot but compared to the 7 inch armor on the King Tiger, the Germans were producing late in the war, it was not very much. The main gun on the Sherman was also not very large it was only a 75 mm gun, compared to the 88 mm on the king tiger, or the JS III soviet tank with a 122mm main gun. If you want a modern day comparison to the JS III the M1A2 main battle tank of the United States only has a 105mm gun. As you can see the Sherman was out-classed in almost every category. The only thing that did help the Sherman is the nearly 49,000 tanks that were built during world war two.

Panzer IVA

The Panzer IVA entered into active service in 1936. It was 18 feet 8 inches long and 9 feet 4 inches wide. Its max armor was 20 mm or .8 inches. It weighed approximately 17.3 tons. It had a top speed of 18.5 miles per hour. Its main gun was a 75 mm or a 2.9 inch gun. This was a much larger gun than any of the allies tanks at the time

Panzer II

The Panzer II was in service in the German Army during all of world war two. It was first designed in 1935 it weighed approximately 7 tons and had a top speed of around 16 miles per hour, a large increase from the world war one tanks that traveled at 2-4 miles per hour. The Panzer II had a small main gun when compared to its later models such as the Panzer III & IV. The Panzer II had an operational range of about 200 km or about 120 miles.

British Spitfire

The British Spitfire was the primary fighter of the RAF during world war two. It was used extensively during the battle of Britain. The spitfire was technically out matched by the superior German Me 109. My guess as to why the spitfire was so effective against the Me 109s was partly do to the use of radar, and that the spitfires could stay in the air much longer that their German counterparts. The Spitfire would remain in service thought the war although some of its operations were given to the new P-51 mustang.

After watching the video in class I was trying to find pictures from the blitz when i found this picture. This is a picture of St. Paul's cathedral from 1940 during the Nazi blitz.  The incendiary bombs were most likely dropped by Junkers Ju 88 bomber, I can't tell for sure if this is the bomber that did most of the damage but i can guess due to its roles as a night fighter/tactical bomber.

Great grandfather to the .50 cal sniper rifle?

The Boys anti-tank rifle Mk I was made by the British in world war two. The round that is fired was 13.9x99mm, to give you an idea of how big that is the modern day .50 cal bullet is 12.7x99mm. This rifle fired a larger round than its modern day counterpart. The Mk-1 was in service from 1937 - 1943. It was used by almost every country in world war two. It weighed in at around 35 pounds and was 5 feet 2 inches long.

PPSh-41

The PPSh-41 is a Russian sub machine gun created in 1941. The PPSh-41 was massed produced though out world war two. It was used for the most part by the Soviet union, but the PPSh-41 was captured and used by the Nazis, the Chinese, Vietnam,  North Korea, and Hungry.  There is a high chance that the PPSh-41 could still be in active service in Korea or China along with the AK-47.

M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle

The M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle more commonly known as the "BAR". The bar was in active service from 1918 to the 1960's.  The BAR was an iconic gun in world war two, in almost every movie that have been made there has been at least one BAR in the movie.

ME 262

The ME 262 was the first operational jet fighter. It was introduced to the German air force or "luftwaffe" in april of 1944.  It served until the early 50's when it was being used by the Czecho airforce.

ww1 tracer round

The tracer round was developed in World War 1 in order to improve accuracy. The tracer round is usually every fifth round fired from a machine gun. The need for a tracer was realized when the gunners had no way of telling where their rounds where going. Before smokeless powder was invented a gunner need only look at the smoke trail left by each bullet, but in world war one with the widespread use of smokeless powder this was impossible. The tracer round is a basic round with a chemical attachment to the bottom of the round making it appear as if it is glowing while traveling to its target.

MARK V TANK

The Mark V tank was designed in 1917 and saw service in World War 1. Roughly 400 of these primitive tanks where built between 1917 and June of 1918. These tanks had two different versions the Male and the Female versions. The Male had two six pound canons with 200 rounds. The six pound guns where shortend artillary pieces attached to the tank for added firepower. The Female version had four .303 vickers machine guns mounted on it. The Mark V had a speed of 5 mph, about average walking speed.  The crew was about 8 including the commander, the driver, two gearsmen, and four gunners. The armor was about 14mm at its maximum.

Down fall of the Turkish Empire

The downfall of the Turkish Empire was brought on by the Turks themselves. The downfall was due to the sultans of the empire. They where no longer being educated and they also no longer cared about what was going on with the people. The problem was that they just wanted to go and have sex with their concubines, get drunk, and kill people. This went on for over several generations. During this time there where several instances when the empire could have been saved and preserved, but the people that could have saved the empire where either killed or corrupted by tradition. When the Turks went to war their leader had no idea what they should do because they had no leadership experience. When a country would invade the Turkish Empire they would gain large amounts of land with little difficulty. This trend would continue until the begining of world war one.

German battle plan

The over all German battle plan went from destroy france within the frist few weeks of the war then move to destroy russia to trying to issolate russia, gain allies to help with the war effort, and spread britains resouces thin. The war the Germans where trying to isolate russia was by cuting off comunication in the north using their navy, and helping the turks fend off the british and her allies to keep russia isolated in the south. This was a wise move on the part of the british because it would mean that the allies would not be able to corrdinate a large scale two front attack. The reasons that germany needed more allies because they had lost italy and they needed to get more troops into the battles. Germany at this point was holding the french and the british back on the western front, while simultaneously holding the russians back on the eatern front. Germany also had troops spread all over the world fighing the british and her colonies.

Global war

WORLD WAR 1 was a global war because it was fought all over the world. There was fighing in asia, the pacific islands, near South America, Africa, India, and of couse Europe. There had even been plans for a german invasion of the US. Athough this plan never went into effect, due to britians naval power, it would have expeanded the war so that the US would have joined sooner than we did. The Majority of the non europe fighting was done by the german navy and the british navy.

What could possibly create a world war?

In order of a modern day world war to happen something along the lines of a nuking of Isreal or britian would have to happen. The reason it would be something like launching a nuke at a country is that the world would have to take action against the country or group of countries that launched said nuke. Another reason this would create a world war is that America and other countries have strong connections with them. This is one of the only ways that a 3rd world war would happen
